New Beginnings Improving Lives CIC (NBIL) was set up in November 2019, they provide support and signposting to people unable to access services or express views and wishes. As the charity has grown, they have added a Men’s Mental Health Boxing club, Foodbank and Community Café, providing important social support to residents. Our local team, who work for Onward Homes, have been helping them improve their community café.
Through our work with Onward’s community team, we were asked to help NBILs community café. They needed their boiler and pipework boxed in, to make the area safer for café users and more aesthetically pleasing.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Amy Holbrook and Contract Manager, Jamie Ramnaught worked to ensure the property was surveyed. The materials they ordered were donated to remove costs for the charity. The work was completed by our builder in one day, using paid volunteering leave to minimise disruption to normal contract activity.
Michelle, manager of NBIL, was really pleased with the work and now means the café provide a safer environment for customers and staff. Its really great to see the local teams utilising volunteering days to help their local communities and deliver meaningful social value through our contracts – thanks again to all those involved!
