Colleagues from PH Jones have come together this week at the ‘Family Hub at Formby Avenue’ in Wigan to transform an underused outdoor space into a vibrant, welcoming garden for local families, as part of our ongoing social value commitments to Wigan Council.

Working together in a mix of rain and sunshine, the team built new benches, installed raised bedding and created tiered planting areas. These were filled with a variety of bedding plants and bulbs to ensure continuous flowering and interest for visitors. To further enhance the space for younger users, the team also supplied play sand alongside buckets and spades, helping to create a fun and interactive environment for children attending the Hub’s sessions.

The Family Hub is a vital resource within the local community, offering a wide range of support services for families and young people aged 0–19. From employment advice and guidance on housing and debt, to SEND support groups and stay-and-play sessions, the Hub plays a key role in supporting wellbeing and opportunity for local residents.

Samantha Day, Growth Manager at PH Jones, who took part in the project, said:
“It was fantastic to be part of this project and see the transformation come to life over the day. Knowing this space will be used by families and young people in the community makes it even more worthwhile. Volunteering opportunities like this really show the impact we can have when we come together as a team.”

This initiative forms part of our broader commitment to delivering meaningful social value alongside its services, supporting local priorities and strengthening community spaces. By giving their time and skills, colleagues are helping to create lasting impact where it matters most.
