Through our contract with Dudley Metropolitan Council, we have started an exciting relationship with Dudley Academies Trust to deliver social value to local school children, promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths careers.

Our first event took place in November with female engineer, Natalie Arnold, attending Blowers Green Primary School helping to deliver their “Dreaming Big” gender stereotyping session delivered to 30 x Year 6 and 30 x Year 5 pupils .

Through their careful questioning, children had to guess the jobs of the visitors. After a short break, all was revealed and each visitor explained their job role and the journey they have been on to be successful in their careers. Visitors had diverse jobs, from

helicopter pilots to police officers, from plumbers to charity workers and from dancers to nurses. Natalie said “I thoroughly enjoyed the event, there were some great questions from the pupils and they were a fab bunch, a real credit to the school.”

Through this event we were able to help children understand that anyone can be an engineer and your gender does not affect your career choices.

Student quote: “Gender stereotypes were challenged for me. Most of us thought that certain jobs were for men and certain jobs were for women. But we learned that they are not! You can do any job you dream of. It doesn’t matter what gender you are. Any opportunity is an opportunity for all men and women!
