In a heartwarming display of community support, PH Jones’ collaborative efforts with Wigan Council’s Tenant Voice & Engagement Team have brought warmth and hope to a local community centre. Through our dedication to social value commitments, this week we donated both materials and labour to install a much-needed boiler, ensuring the centre can continue its vital services for residents.
As Brian Naylor, Chairman of Park Lane Unitarian Chapel and community centre expressed, without this generous contribution, the centre faced the grim prospect of closure. “We would have had no option but to close our doors,” they shared. “For months we have had no heating or hot water. It was imperative we changed the boiler,” Such a closure would have left a significant gap in the community, depriving residents of a valuable resource.
But now, the community centre is transformed into a warm, inviting space. This not only provides physical comfort but also fosters a sense of belonging and connectivity for the local residents.
Beyond the immediate relief provided by the boiler installation, this initiative exemplifies the power of collective action in addressing social challenges. By pooling resources and expertise, organisations can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Initiatives like this highlight the importance of social value and the role businesses play in supporting their communities.
