Air source heat pumps are a means of heating your home without using fossil fuels. An air source heat pump takes energy from the air and raises it to a higher temperature, using a process similar in principle to refrigeration, but in reverse: that is, the air which is expelled is warm, not cold. There are two types of air source heat pumps:
We have extensive experience in air source heat pump installation and alternative renewable energy technologies, working with local authorities and homeowners on a variety of projects.
With an air source heat pump, air is extracted from outside through the pump, from air temperatures as low as minus 15 °C. The air is then used to provide heating and hot water, through a reverse process to refrigeration, where air is drawn out from inside to keep a fridge cool.
Air source heat pumps are used when it is not possible to drill in a ground probe or install a surface ground loop on the property, for example, if the house is in a rocky area, or has minimal garden, being an ideal solution for apartments and small properties.
When working efficiently, an external air source heat pump can lower energy consumption for heating by up to 50 per cent, when compared to conventional heating systems, but if a property is well insulated, the air source heat pump can provide sufficient heating. Other advantages include no fuel storage requirements and reduced air source heat pump installation costs as there is minimal ground work to be carried out.
As the system runs on electricity, this is ideal for properties without a gas supply or with restrictions on the use of solid fuels, therefore a perfect solution for urban homes. Air source heat pumps operate at maximum efficiency when maintain temperatures and produce hot water to a lower range than the usual boiler systems, making underfloor heating the most effective option.
Although ongoing expansion plans are in place, our renewable energies and air source heat pump installation team currently operates within a local area, comprising Cheshire, Manchester, Wirral, Shropshire, and North Wales.
